What a day

Today I drove with some friends (I know them through work) to Calgary to a memorial service for Derek Liebenberg. [By the way, when I posted about him the other day, I didn't mention that he died of a massive heart attack in his bed.]

Anyway, it was a great service - seriously. I usually hate funerals but this one was so different. It had an awesome worship time with great music. It also had lots of tributes - some were on video. There was also plenty of humor, which would have made Derek very glad because he had a great sense of humor. His wife's tribute was the most powerful thing of all. Some of the things that she shared about Derek and their life together were very moving. And it was so amazing to see her be so strong in such a difficult time. You could really see that God had given her His peace. Even though she admitted that this was a tough time, she shared that she was so glad for the miracle that God had given her in that she will soon give birth to a baby boy. Wow. That is quite the neat perspective. Anyway, the whole day was really amazing and I am so thankful that I could go and experience it.

I was also really encouraged in my faith in God and His amazing purposes even in a difficult time as death. It sure gives me hope for the future.
